It’s not just about the photos
Photography is a people business. Your photos might get you noticed, but reliability, communication and personality are what win the job and the repeat work.
Once you reach a certain level, good work becomes the baseline. Everyone being considered can shoot well, so when businesses are choosing a photographer, the question isn’t really “Who’s the best?” but “Who’s the best fit?”
From a client’s point of view, it’s not just about the photos. It’s about trust and connection.
When you’re looking to hire a photographer, ask yourself:
- Will this person handle the job confidently, even when things don’t go to plan?
- Do they understand what I actually need, not just what looks good on Instagram?
- Will they make the process easy, organised and (dare I say it) enjoyable?
- Do they have the kind of personality that makes people feel comfortable and at ease?
- Are they friendly, approachable and easy to get along with?
- Do they communicate clearly and respond quickly when I have questions?
- Can I rely on them to deliver on time?
- Most importantly, do I actually like them enough to spend a day working together?
The experience matters as much as the results
Over the years, clients have told me that what really makes a difference is the experience. Things like being easy to work with, keeping the day calm and organised, and bringing a relaxed energy that helps people feel comfortable in front of the camera.
It’s also about being flexible, adapting when plans change and still delivering great results without any fuss. That kind of approach builds trust, and trust is what keeps people coming back.

What makes a photographer the right fit
What each of us brings to the table is unique. Skill matters, of course, but so do the little things like the way you make people feel comfortable, how you handle pressure and how well you understand what your client is trying to achieve. That’s the real value.
At SIX84 Photography, that’s always been my focus. Yes, the images need to be strong, bold and professional, but just as important is the experience that comes with them. My goal is to make things simple, enjoyable and useful, so clients walk away with great photos and a sense that the whole process was effortless.
Good photography should feel effortless, from the first chat to the final image.
