Celebrating Colour & Culture: South Eveleigh’s Holi Hai Festival

March 21, 2025

After attending last year’s vibrant celebration at South Eveleigh, it’s exciting to see the return of Holi Hai this year. Often referred to as the Festival of Colours, Holi marks the arrival of spring and symbolises the triumph of good over evil.

Holi Hai at South Eveleigh

A blend of industrial grit and urban chic, this multicultural event transforms the precinct into a lively hub of music, dance, and clouds of powdered pigment. Think Bollywood beats, spontaneous dance-offs, culinary bites and a courtyard awash in technicolour, all while honouring the festival’s core message: letting go of negativity and embracing new beginnings.

Festival Highlights

  • Colour-Throwing

Participants fully embraced the spirit of Holi, covering each another in brightly coloured powders. The air was filled with dusty hues, creating a visual spectacle and some captivating photographic moments.

  • Cultural Performances

The festival featured an energetic lineup of traditional Bhangra dancers, Dhol drummers, DJs, and mesmerising performances by the Nupur Dance Group, each adding to the electrifying atmosphere of the event.

  • Interactive Experiences

Attendees could immerse themselves in cultural traditions like henna artists creating intricate hand designs.

  • Culinary Delights

The aroma of Indian cuisine filled the air, with pop-up stalls serving a variety of sweet and savoury treats. From sizzling street food to classic favourites, the festival's food offerings brought people together to share in the joy of the occasion.

A Photographer's Perspective

Holi Hai at South Eveleigh is all about colour, culture and community and honestly, it’s a dream to photograph. There’s no shortage of moments: faces covered in bright powder, hair full of colour, people mid-laugh or mid-dance. It’s chaotic in the best way, and capturing that energy as it unfolded was so much fun.
